Once your application has been reviewed by admissions, they will contact you to complete an interview. School interviews vary depending on the school. Some programs will conduct individual interviews and some will have group interviews. For example, the school I went to had a day of interviews with different instructors in groups. In this section, we will go over some tips to help you prepare for your interview.
Make sure you leave early and give yourself plenty of time to find where you are going. Remember: being early is on time, on time is late and being late is unacceptable. If you are late to your interview, you might as well not even show up.
Take the time to research the school you are applying to. You should know all the program expectations, requirements and be prepared to be asked questions about the school and/or program.
Interviews are very professional. Expect to look like a professional. Do not wear any jeans, ill-fitting clothes and avoid clothes that are too tight and/or short. Remember: first impressions are very important.
You can expect to be asked questions during your interview. These can range from personal to academic. Be honest. Research common interview questions and practice what you would say. Avoid saying "um". Sit up straight. Nobody expects you to be perfect, but they are looking to see that you carry yourself like a professional.
School interviews are very nerve wracking. I know that I was very nervous during my interview. However, it's important to breathe. Take a moment to calm your self and be genuine. Be confident, remember you got this far so they are already interested in you.
This is your chance to ask any questions. It always looks good to ask questions and engage with faculty and other peers. This is your last chance to leave a meaningful impression.
